Brian E. Carey, M.D., FACEP
Dr. Carey, originally from Texas, graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin in 1983. He studied medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX, and received his doctorate of medicine in 1987. He continued his training in Emergency Medicine with Orlando Regional Medical Center in Florida.
Shortly after completing his specialty training, Dr. Carey accepted a position as an attending Emergency Physician with Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, TX. He also served as a professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School teaching resident physicians in the Emergency Department.
After practicing Emergency Medicine in Texas for seven years, Dr. Carey and his family moved to Tryon in search of a more wholesome lifestyle. Dr. Carey has since been serving in administrative and staff positions in the emergency departments of Spartanburg Regional and Pardee Hospitals.
Realizing the need for more personalized care and an alternative to overcrowded emergency departments, Dr. Carey began to entertain the prospect of providing quality urgent care in the community that he has grown to love. This vision became a reality in April 2005, when Tryon Urgent Care opened its doors and became the first Urgent Care Center for Polk County and surrounding areas.
Tryon Urgent Care has been received with open arms by local residents. The community enjoys the convenience of prompt service, walk-in availability, and compassionate, friendly care. Here, people of any age can receive treatment for a range of common illnesses to minor emergencies.
Dr. Carey, his wife, Colleen, and their three children, are active in the Polk County community. Colleen is a music and genealogy enthusiast. Their children enjoy local sports activities and participate in many school functions. The Carey family is also committed in their local Tryon church, where Colleen plays the piano for the music program.
